Benefits of Aloe

Powerful aloe vera skin care products by The Aloe Source mentioned in Beauty World NewsOur Aloe

We utilize a unique charcoal filtration process that removes the aloin and aloe emodin from our stabilized aloe vera without destroying the integrity of its beneficial nutrients.  The Aloe Source partnered with an aloe vera farm in North America to harvest, process and stabilize organic aloe vera exclusively for our products. By purchasing our aloe directly from the source, we are able to control its purity, stability and quality.

There are several benefits of aloe that many people don’t realize. The most potent variety of aloe is Aloe barbadensis miller, which can be found in all of our products. Here are some of the many surprising benefits of aloe when applied topically:

  • Helps in soothing the discomfort associated with scars, burns and cuts
  • May aid in relieving the stinging and itching from insect bits
  • Helps boost cell turnover
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hydrates the skin
  • Vitamin and nutrient  dense
  • Reduces the appearance of eczema

Aloe is also very beneficial when taken internally, whether as an aloe vera juice or in supplement form.  Some of the benefits of ingesting aloe are:

  • Provides the body with essential nutrients, like vitamins and amino acids
  • Rich in enzymes that help balance your digestive system
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Helps to detoxify and replenish the body
  • Boosts the immune-system

Plastic Microbeads and Why They Have Been Banned

The plastic microbeads used inside exfoliants, face wash, toothpaste, deodorant and more have now been banned by the U.S. gov’t. Manufacturing plastic at such a tiny scale and then disseminating them by the tens of thousands into nearly every American home turned out to be a really, really bad idea. Our wastewater treatment plants are not designed to breakdown these plastic microbeads. They do not biodegrade, so they stay in the ground and waterways virtually forever.

Microplastics may be small, but they’re causing big problems for our environment and our health. These tiny pieces of plastic used in personal care products are designed to go down the drain and into our lakes, rivers, and oceans — by the billions every day. They absorb toxins in the water, are eaten by marine life, and can make their way up the food chain all the way to our dinner plates.

Thanks to our Community members flexing their citizen muscles, by 2017 it will be illegal to sell a personal care product containing plastic microbeads – a huge victory for our waterways and public health. This policy provides a precedent setting model for the rest of the world to replicate and is an important stepping stone to tackling plastic pollution in our oceans.

The Aloe Source Jojoba Radiance Cleansing Polish

So what do you do now that your favorite exfoliate is now discontinued? Look into our Jojoba exfoliating cleanser.
Our Jojoba Radiance Face Wash is created with genuine jojoba microbeads that gently exfoliate while dissolving completely in water. It’s one of the few non-plastic exfoliating cleansers on the market with an affordable price.

3 Ways to Spring Clean Your Skin Care Routine

How to Spring Clean Your Skin Care Routine

Tis the season for spring cleaning. It’s a season where we toss out the old to make room for the new. We shake off the symbolic layers of winter and get ready to bloom. You don’t have to stop with dusting and purging your house to reap the full benefits of spring cleaning. Your skin care routine needs a boost, too. Here’s how to transition from winter to spring with fresh, fabulous skin.

STEP 1: Purge

Spring cleaning is a great opportunity to purge old cosmetics and skin care products. These products do have a shelf life. Old, outdated products can harbor bacteria and lose their effectiveness.

Check the dates on your products. You may want to toss the following:

– Anything past the expiration date
– Products that appear dry or crusty
– Anything that has changed consistency, color, or smell
– Anything with an SPF older than one year (SPF loses its effectiveness over time and it’s just not worth the risk.)
– Mascara older than three months. (Always toss it after three months, regardless of how much there is remaining.)
– Old, dirty make-up brushes and sponges

STEP 2: Exfoliate

The cold, dry days of winter may be over, but your dry, flaky skin remains. Spring is a good time for deep exfoliation and cleansing. During winter, much of our skin is “out of sight, out of mind.” Long pants, long sleeves, and warm socks may have prevented you from seeing the rough, dry skin building up on your feet, knees, and elbows. Slough off that old layer of dry skin and make room for spring.

Here’s a home exfoliation remedy that will leave your skin feel smooth, soft, and ready for skirts and sandals:

– Mix 2 cups of brown sugar with 1 cup of olive oil
– Scrub the entire body with a circular motion, paying extra attention to rough, dry patches of skin.
– Rinse and moisturize.

For a deep cleansing facial routine that is sure to leave your complexion glowing, use:

– Use The Aloe Source Jojoba Radiance Cleansing Polish to gently polish away loosened skin cells and debris while increasing circulation, leaving skin with a healthy-looking, radiant glow.
– Follow with the Luminosity Masque to nourish, soothe and soften the skin.

Rinse and moisturize.

STEP 3: Transition

Adjust your skin care routine to reflect the seasonal changes that come with spring. A few changes necessitated by spring:

– Switch to a lighter moisturizer. Higher temperatures result in oilier skin for everyone, not just those with a tendency to oily skin. It’s important to use a lighter moisturizer during spring.

– Exfoliate more often. Depending on the climate and your skin type, you may need to exfoliate more often in the spring and summer.

– Lighten up. For spring and summer, use a lighter foundation and lighter, brighter make-up colors. The dull, drab days of winter are behind you—freshen up!

– Sunscreen. Sunscreen is important all year, but imperative in the spring and summer when more of your skin is exposed for longer periods of time. Stay vigilant with sunscreen.

Here’s to spring skin that is as fresh and bright as the blooming flowers.

How to Love Your Skin

Forget about tanning, bleaching and heavy makeup. Learn to love your natural skin tone and complexion. Follow these tips to love your skin and treat it right every day.

1. Hydrate

It’s the most common, and most talked about thing, both in regards to anti-ageing but also our health in general. When our body is dehydrated it can also show on our skin, and due to our bodies being made up of 55-70% water, it is something that makes a great difference. Both inside and out.

It has no calories or preservatives, which means that nothing in it will inflame or irritate your skin, which can’t be said for fizzy drinks. However, if you feel that water is lacking in the flavor department, having coffee or tea is still a great away to get your daily intake of water. Don’t forget about a balanced, healthy diet — eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and other vitamins.

2. Go Natural

When it comes to makeup, don’t aim to cover up your skin — instead, just enhance it. The natural look is “in” right now, whether you have pale skin and freckles or deep mahogany skin. Natural makeup doesn’t mean no makeup. Everyone can use a little help now and then to reduce the appearance of blemishes and other small imperfections. Use a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer that matches the natural tone of your skin. Apply makeup with a light hand — a little goes a long way. Save the ultra-glam makeup for special occasions, and stick with the natural makeup look for everyday wear.

3. Treat your skin right

Love your skin and treat it right. In addition to sunscreen, use cleansers, moisturizers and other skin care products that are suited to your skin type. Never go to sleep with your makeup on.

4. Get plenty of beauty sleep

Lack of sleep can wreak havoc on your skin, causing blemishes, puffy eyes and premature signs of aging. Get at least seven hours of restful sleep a night. Your skin (and the rest of your body) needs the downtime while you are sleeping to rejuvenate itself.

Best Sunburn Remedies for Relief

Yeah, sunburns happen! Maybe you forgot to reapply sunscreen at the beach or you stayed longer than you’d planned. Or maybe you didn’t get even coverage. Whatever happened, the result is the same: You’ve got a hot, painful, red, itchy burn, and you need sunburn relief.

So how do you get relief from your sunburn? To help replenish and repair sunburnt skin, follow our simple sunburn remedies.

If you’ve been lounging by the pool or beach all day, we advise taking a cool shower as soon as you get home. The cool water will soothe your sunburn and help to remove any chlorine or salt on your skin, which can further dry out sunburned skin.

If your burn is localized (like, say, you missed a spot while sunblocking up), cold Arctic Aloe Chilling Mist ($30) is just what the doctor ordered. We suggest that you store it in your ice bucket or refrigerator for a refreshing burst of hydration. The coolness, aloe vera with and hydrating properties of the hyaluronic acid to give your skin the moisture it needs all help soothe the skin and make you a much happier camper.

Sunburn is a burn. It sounds like stating the obvious, but we often don’t think about the fact that we really, truly, seared our skin. As with any other thing that burns your skin is dried out, and your body is dehydrated too. Keep yourself full of H20, which is necessary to heal your damaged skin.

Aloe vera is many peoples go-to when they have sunburn. It’s cool, soothing and seems to suck the sting and redness right out of your sunburn. Treat your burn as needed until it heals with an aloe vera lotion that is formulated with a concentrated blend of aloe vera and other essential nutrients. We recommend our Nourishing Aloe Body Lotion ($24) because of it’s nutrient-rich formula of aloe vera, cucumber, shea butter, wheat protein and green tea to soothe, moisturize and protect sunburnt skin.

*SKINCARE TIP: Keep your aloe lotion in the refrigerator for added relief.

The sun’s rays are drying on the delicate lip tissue. To comfort and protect your lips start with a hydrating balm with aloe vera and reapply regularly when outdoors. The Aloe Source Lip Therapy ($8) keeps lips hydrated using a blend of reparative natural waxes and coconut oil cushion the lips and create a protective barrier, while stabilized aloe vera and allantoin nourish and soothe.

Don’t make the same mistake twice. After you’ve gotten burned, it takes 3 to 6 months for your skin to return to normal. When you get a sunburn and the top layer of skin peels off, the newly exposed skin is more sensitive than ever. That means you’ll burn even faster than you did before if you’re not careful. Be smart about your sun exposure and protect yourself with sunscreen, hats, and clothing.Hydrate and protect skin and lips after exposure to the sun. Stabilized aloe vera, shea butter and other key ingredients help moisturize and sooth skin, along with provide extra nourishment and comfort for dry irritated skin caused by dry air, sunburn, tiredness and pollution. The Summer Essentials Kit ($72) has all the must-have products you need for sunburn relief.

The 10 Best After-Sun Skin Care Tips

The 10 Best After-Sun Skin Care Tips
Replenish & Repair Your Skin After Sun Exposure

With summer now upon us, who doesn’t love a little fun in the sun? When the beach beckons and the pool pulls you in, stay smart and protected with all the right practices for a safe time in the sun. The sun can have damaging effects on your skin, which is why we need to do our best to protect it.

That being said, despite our best efforts, sometimes we can still get sunburnt. To help replenish and repair sunburnt skin, follow our simple after-sun tips.

1. Take a Cool Shower

Salt water and chlorine droplets on the skin can magnify the sun’s rays and dehydrate it. Have a cool shower when you get home which will help to cool the skin down almost instantly.

2. Water, Water Everywhere

When it comes to your body, Mother Nature knows best! It may sound simple but drink plenty of water, both during your time out in the sun and later on in the evening. It’s not only good for your health but super important when re-hydrating your skin.

3. Protect Your Pout

4. Cool Off

Keep a face mist in your ice chest so you can mist your face and body while on the beach or pool side. The Arctic Aloe Chilling Mist ($30) combines the healing properties of aloe vera with the hydrating properties of hyaluronic acid to give your skin the moisture it needs, and in addition to cooling you down, it has the added benefit of attracting moisture molecules to your skin.

5. Smooth Operator

Daily facials not in the cards? A gentle, daily exfoliating routine is your next best bet in the quest for softer, smoother, clearer skin. Exfoliating cleansers lift and wash away dead skin cells and clean out your pores for smooth radiant skin. Our favorite? The Jojoba Radiance Cleansing Polish ($30).

6. Easy On The Eyes

The summer elements can be particularly harsh on the fragile skin around the eyes.  The Aloe Source Eye Firming Complex ($34) contains aloe vera, sea kelp, gotu kola and echinacea extracts to help visibly firm and reduce the appearance of puffiness around the eyes. Plus, the texture is light, and it’s very fast absorbing in the skin, which is important during the hot and humid days of summer.

7. Don’t Scratch

Bug bites can itch and look unsightly for weeks after they become inflamed. If you happen to get stuck with a sting, we suggest using the Nourishing Aloe Body Lotion ($24) which is packed with aloe vera, cucumber and green tea to soothe minor skin irritations, such as rashes, itching and minor burns.

8. Moisturize ASAP

Upon drying off, apply the Nourishing Aloe Souffle ($28) with aloe vera and ginger root oil to your entire body – feet included. Salt and sun can dry out your skin, so it needs to be rehydrated as soon as possible. Your face may also have experienced some natural exfoliation from the sand, especially if it was a windy day. Applying a moisturizer like the Vitamin C Antioxidant Creme ($40) straight after a shower can replenish and lock moisture into your skin.

9. Bounce Back From Your Burn

Hydrate and protect skin and lips after exposure to the sun. Stabilized aloe vera, shea butter and other key ingredients help moisturize and sooth skin, along with provide extra nourishment and comfort for dry irritated skin caused by dry air, sunburn, tiredness and pollution. The Summer Essentials Kit ($72) has all must have products you need to beat the heat this summer.

10. Don’t Repeat Your Mistakes

Despite having the best intentions, it’s very easy to miss a spot when applying sunscreen (tricky places to watch out for include tops of your ears and behind your knees) and this may result in sunburn. The Aloe Source Summer Essentials Kit ($72) will help relieve and cool the skin if you’ve been sun burnt; however the best method is prevention. Next time you head out, cover up!

She reviewed some of our best products including the Jojoba Radiance Cleansing Polish and Luminosity Masque. She states in her blog, “The cleansing polish feels good on the skin, does a great job of exfoliating in a non-abrasive way, and doesn’t leave behind a gross layer on the skin afterwards. Despite being a really gentle cleanser, it does the job well.”
